The organisers of the Coleford Music Festival have reluctantly agreed that there will be no festival in 2008 it was announced today.
The volunteers, some of whom have been involved in organising the event from when it began in May 2000 have decided that they would like to take a year out to assess the event.
Chair Vicki Thornton said, “There has been enormous pressure each year on committee members to raise huge amounts of money through grants, fundraising & sponsorship whilst only a small amount of money is donated through the collection buckets. As the festival has grown so have all of the costs.
With the present climate bringing a possibility of a reduction in funding from various sources and support for events from the District Council being reduced, we have to examine the position we are in.We are taking the next year out to restructure the organisation and research into becoming more sustainable. There may be some exciting new projects in the pipeline including more family orientated future events, radio and film.”There will still be some fundraisers organised throughout the year by the youth committee, which will go to supporting any future community events that we hold. We wish to thank all of the helpers, volunteers, stewards and performers who have been involved over the last eight years. Many great performances have been watched, friendships made, skills learnt and enjoyment had by lots of people. If you have any best festival moments that you would like to share or have your say on what a new event could look like please add your comments here.
